To increase your selection chances the important part of the West Bengal Civil Services (WBCS) Exam is choosing the best scoring optional subject wisely.
There are a few points that you should consider while choosing the optional subject for WBCS Exam.
- Understand the Syllabus: Before choosing the optional subject, once go through the syllabus of each optional subject. Identify the topics that you are comfortable with and have a good understanding of.
- Interest and Strengths: Consider your interest, strengths, background knowledge, and the availability of study materials.
- Time Management: Consider the time you have for preparation and choose a subject that you can manage effectively within the available time.
- Previous Year Papers: Research the past years' question papers and analyze the scoring trends for each optional subject.
- Coaching and Guidance: Assess whether you need coaching or guidance for the optional subject. Some subjects might require expert help to understand concepts and scoring strategies.
The Mains examination will comprise eight papers, out of which candidates will need to select two papers from a list of 37 subjects for the last two papers. As part of this selection, candidates will be able to choose one optional subject, and both optional papers will contain questions from the subject they have opted for.
