How to choose the best scoring optional subject in the WBCS exam?

To increase your selection chances the important part of the West Bengal Civil Services (WBCS) Exam is choosing the best scoring optional subject wisely.

There are a few points that you should consider while choosing the optional subject for WBCS Exam.

1. Understand the Syllabus: Before choosing the optional subject, once go through the syllabus of each optional subject. Identify the topics that you are comfortable with and have a good understanding of.
2. Interest and Strengths: Consider your interest, strengths, background knowledge, and the availability of study materials.
3. Time Management: Consider the time you have for preparation and choose a subject that you can manage effectively within the available time.
4. Previous Year Papers: Research the past years' question papers and analyze the scoring trends for each optional subject.

The Mains examination will comprise eight papers, out of which candidates will need to select two papers from a list of 37 subjects for the last two papers. A structured and systematic approach is required for better preparation of the (WBCS) Prelims and Mains. WBCS preparation requires an organized study plan and understanding of the exam format, syllabus and type of questions asked in previous year examinations. Step 1: Understand the WBCS Exam Pattern

WBCS Prelims Exam Preparation

• For the Preliminary exam, focus on General Studies, including subjects like Current Affairs, Geography, Indian Polity, Science and Technology, and History.

• Practice questions or MCQs from previous year's papers and give online mock tests to improve your time management and accuracy.

Total MCQs: 200 MCQs worth 200 marks

WBCS Mains Exam Preparation

• Mains syllabus consists of 6 compulsory papers and 2 papers on one optional subject for only WBCS Group A and B posts.

• • Mains exam includes descriptive questions, so enhance your writing skills. Start practicing writing essays in order to improve. 

• Concentrate on the optional subjects and General Studies papers, including various subjects like History, Geography, Political Science, etc. 

WBCS Personality Test

• Candidate will be called for the personality test after clearing the WBCS mains exam
• This test is conducted to know about candidates' personal qualities like alertness of mind, power of clear and logical exposition, intellectual and moral integrity, leadership, etc

Total marks for groups A and B post is 200.

Total marks for groups C and D post is 150.

Step 2: Make a Study Plan

Create a study plan that covers all the subjects and topics included in the WBCS syllabus. Allocate specific time slots for each subject and ensure a balanced approach.

Step 3: Revision

Regularly revise all the subjects and topics. Create short notes and flashcards to aid in quick revision.

Step 4: Stay Informed About Current Affairs

Stay updated on current affairs by reading newspapers, and magazines, and following reliable online sources. Focus on national and international events, government policies, and schemes.

Step 5: Previous Year Papers (PYQs) and Mock Tests

Make sure to give regular mock tests and solve previous year's question papers to get a feel of the actual exam. Aspirants can also join the test series for more practice. Analyse your performance in mock tests to identify weak areas and work on them.

RICE Talent Scholarship Test: এক নতুন সূচনার প্রতিশ্রুতি

২৬ নভেম্বর- দিনটা মনে আছে তো? পড়াশুনার এক নতুন আঙিনায় প্রবেশ করতে চলেছো তোমরা RICE Talent scholarship Test তথা RTST- র মাধ্যমে।  

আশা করা যায় তোমরা সবাই-ই RTST- র অনলাইন রেজিস্ট্রেশন প্রক্রিয়াটি সম্পূর্ণ করেছো। এবার অপেক্ষা মাত্র আর কয়েক ঘন্টার। RTST শিক্ষার্থীদের কাছে এক সুবর্ণ সুযোগ স্বরূপ। কারণ এই টেস্ট দেয় ৫০% পর্যন্ত স্কলারশিপ নিয়ে সরকারি চাকরি পাওয়ার অব্যর্থ লক্ষ্যে RICE থেকে প্রস্তুতি নেওয়ার দুর্দান্ত সুযোগ! 

পরীক্ষা হবে অনলাইনে, একাধিক শিফটে। লগ ইন করে ১ ঘন্টার মধ্যে ৫০টি প্রশ্নের উত্তর দিতে হবে। প্রত্যেকটি প্রশ্নের মান ১। কিন্তু চিন্তার কোন কারণ নেই- প্রশ্ন একদমই মাধ্যমিক স্তরের এবং মাল্টিপল চয়েসের এই প্রশ্নগুলিতে কোন নেগেটিভ মার্কিং নেই। সকলের সুবিধার জন্য আরও একবার জানিয়ে রাখা হল এখানে নাম্বার ডিভিশনটা এরকম- ইংরেজিতে ১০, অঙ্কে  ১৫, জেনারেল ইন্টেলিজেন্স ও রিজনিং-এ ৫, এবং জেনারেল নলেজ ও কারেন্ট অ্যাফেয়ার্সে ২০। সর্বমোট ৫০ নম্বরের ৫০টি প্রশ্ন থাকবে। 

একা একা পড়ে বারংবার ব্যর্থতার মুখ দেখে লাভ নেই বরং নিখুঁত প্রস্তুতি নিয়ে একাধিক সরকারি চাকরির সুযোগ পেয়ে সেরা সুযোগটাকে কেড়ে নিতে হবে- প্রতিযোগিতামূলক ক্ষেত্রের এটাই নিয়ম। তাই সরকারি চাকরির লক্ষ্যে অবিচল থেকে প্রস্তুতি নিতে হবে সেরার সেরা প্রতিষ্ঠান RICE Education থেকে। এখানে পড়ার এবং স্বপ্ন সফল করার প্রথম পদক্ষেপটি হল এই RTST পরীক্ষা। এটা সকল শিক্ষার্থীকে সুযোগ দেয় নিজের সাধ্য অনুযায়ী স্কলারশিপ জিতে নেওয়ার।

RICE Talent Scholarship Test : স্বপ্নপূরণের লক্ষ্যে প্রথম পদক্ষেপ

RTST হল RICE Talent scholarship Test। এই টেস্টটির মাধ্যমে ছাত্রছাত্রীরা পেয়ে যেতে পারে RICE-এর যে কোন কোর্স ফিসের উপরে ৫০% পর্যন্ত ছাড়। RICE RTST হল একটি মাধ্যম যার দ্বারা কোন শিক্ষার্থী তার সরকারি চাকরি পাওয়ার স্বপ্নপূরণের লক্ষ্যে দুই পা এগিয়ে যেতে পারে। কিভাবে? প্রথমত সরকারি চাকরি পেতে গেলে যে বিষয়গুলো পড়তে হয়, সেই মাধ্যমিক স্তরের অঙ্ক, জেনারেল নলেজের উপর ভিত্তি করেই এই পরীক্ষা হবে খুবই সহজ কিছু প্রশ্নের মধ্যে দিয়ে। সুতরাং এই পরীক্ষাটির প্রস্তুতি নিতে নিতেই প্রাথমিকভাবে পড়াশুনাগুলো একবার ঝালিয়ে নেওয়া হবে চাকরির পরীক্ষার লক্ষ্যে। দ্বিতীয়ত, এই পরীক্ষায় রেজাল্ট অনুযায়ী পাওয়া যাবে RICE Education-এর বিভিন্ন কোর্সে ভর্তির উপর ছাড়। অর্থাৎ, সরকারি চাকরির প্রস্তুতি নিশ্চিত হবে সেরা প্রতিষ্ঠানের সেরা শিক্ষকদের কাছে। 

2. RICE RTST;  পরীক্ষার খুঁটিনাটি 

RICE RTST সম্পূর্ণ একটি অনলাইন টেস্ট, এখানে ১ ঘন্টা সময়সীমায় ৫০টি প্রশ্নের উত্তর করতে হয়। MCQ ধরণের এই প্রশ্নগুলোর প্রত্যেকটির মান ১। এখানে একদম মাধ্যমিক স্তরের অঙ্ক, ইংরেজি, জেনারেল ইন্টেলিজেন্স এবং জেনারেল নলেজ ও কারেন্ট অ্যাফেয়ার্সের উপর পরীক্ষা নেওয়া হয়। ইংরেজি থেকে ১০টি, অঙ্ক থেকে ১৫টি, জেনারেল ইন্টেলিজেন্স ও রিজনিং থেকে ৫টি, এবং জেনারেল নলেজ ও কারেন্ট অ্যাফেয়ার্সের থেকে ২০টি করে মোট ৫০ নম্বরের ৫০টি প্রশ্নের উত্তর দিতে হয়। এ বছরের RICE RTST অনুষ্ঠিত হতে চলেছে ২৬ নভেম্বর ২০২৩ সকাল ৯টা থেকে রাত ৮টা পর্যন্ত বিভিন্ন স্লটে। রেজাল্ট ঘোষিত হবে ২৮ নভেম্বর ২০২৩। যারা উচ্চমাধ্যমিক পাশ করার পর কলেজে পড়ছে বা যে কোন শাখা থেকে গ্র্যাজুয়েশন সম্পূর্ণ করেছে তারা প্রত্যেকে RICE RTST দেওয়ার জন্য যোগ্য। এই পরীক্ষা দেওয়ার জন্য কোন রেজিস্ট্রেশন ফি নেই- শিক্ষার্থীদের জন্য সম্পূর্ণ বিনামূল্যে এই মেধা পরীক্ষা আর্থসামাজিক দিক থেকে পিছিয়ে থাকা ছাত্রছাত্রীদেরও যোগ্য জীবিকার ক্ষেত্রে পৌঁছে দিতে অঙ্গীকারবদ্ধ। টেস্টটি দেওয়ার জন্য রেজিস্ট্রেশন করতে হবে www.ricesmart.in/rtst এই লিঙ্কে গিয়ে,  বিশদে জানতে ফোন করতে হবে  62921 90230 নম্বরে।  

3. RICE RTST;  ছাত্রছাত্রীদের উৎসাহিত করে  

RICE RTST ছাত্রছাত্রীদের উৎসাহিত করে সরকারি চাকরির প্রস্তুতি নিতে, কারণ এই টেস্টের রেজাল্টের ভিত্তিতে পাওয়া যেতে পারে RICE -এর অফলাইন, অনলাইন, ইন্টিগ্রেটেড কোর্স যেকোন ধরণের কোর্স ফির উপর ৫০% পর্যন্ত মেগা ছাড়। স্বপ্নপূরণের এই তো শুরু, অসংখ্য শিক্ষার্থীর কাছে RICE -এ পড়তে পারা এবং এখান থেকে প্রস্তুতি নিয়ে সরকারি চাকরির পরীক্ষা দেওয়া এক স্বপ্নস্বরূপ। এবং RICE Education-ও দায়িত্ব নিয়ে সাফল্যের দোরগোড়ায় তাদের পৌঁছে দিয়েছে—১.৫ লক্ষের বেশী ছাত্রছাত্রীর বিভিন্ন কেন্দ্রীয় ও রাজ্য সরকারি পদে বহাল থাকা এই সাফল্যকে প্রমাণ করে। এরপর তো আছেই ৩৮ বছরের ঐতিহ্যসম্পন্ন প্রতিষ্ঠানটির অভিজ্ঞ শিক্ষকদের কাছে পড়ার সুফল, RICE -এর স্টাডি মেটেরিয়ালের সুদৃঢ় সমর্থন। ২০২২ সালে একাধিক শিক্ষার্থী এই পরীক্ষায় ভালো রেজাল্ট করে সম্পূর্ণ ৫০% স্কলারশিপ জিতে নিয়েছিল, এবং আজ তারা RICE –এর বিভিন্ন শাখায় সরকারি চাকরির পরীক্ষার প্রস্তুতি নিচ্ছে। এমন উদাহরণও আছে যে, স্কলারশিপ পেয়েই RICE Education-এ ভর্তি হয়েছিল এবং সম্মানজনক সরকারি পদে অধিষ্ঠিত হওয়ার পর RICE-এ শুরু করার কথা সেই ছাত্র তার নিজ মুখে বলেছে। সুতরাং RICE RTST তে বসে একবার নিজেকে যাচাই করেও নেওয়া যেতে পারে যে কোথায় কোথায় কমতি বা খামতি থেকে যাচ্ছে। 

4. RICE RTST; এবার পরীক্ষায় বসতেই হবে 

সামনেই আসছে একাধিক সরকারি চাকরির পরীক্ষা, স্টাফ সিলেকশন কমিশন ইতিমধ্যেই ২০২৪-২০২৫ আর্থিক বর্ষে CGL CHSL সহ ১২টি পরীক্ষার রেজিস্ট্রেশন, পরীক্ষার সম্ভাব্য তারিখ ঘোষণা করে দিয়েছে। পাশাপাশি পশ্চিমবঙ্গ পাবলিক সার্ভিস কমিশনও Clerkship, Miscellaneous, Food SI ইত্যাদি পরীক্ষার বিজ্ঞপ্তি প্রকাশ করেছে। তাছাড়াও পশ্চিমবঙ্গ পুলিশ এবং কোলকাতা পুলিশে বিপুল পরিমান নিয়োগ হতে চলেছে। তাহলে আর হাত গুটিয়ে বসে থাকা কেন? জীবনে যদি মর্যাদার সঙ্গে সুপ্রতিষ্ঠিত হতে হয় তাহলে আজই সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়ার দিন। RICE RTST-তে ভালো রেজাল্ট দিয়ে শুরু হোক এই অভিযান। যদি কোন শিক্ষার্থীর মনে দ্বিধা থাকে যে, কোন  বিষয়ে হয়তো সে দুর্বল আর এই দুর্বলতার কারণে সে সরকারী চাকরির পরীক্ষায় বসতে ভয় পায়! তাহলে তার এক্ষুনি RICE RTST-তে বসা উচিত, কারণ একমাত্র RICE Methodology –ই পারে তার দুর্বলতাকে দক্ষতায় বদলে দিতে। কাজেই, বোঝা যাচ্ছে উদীয়মান তরুণ প্রজন্মের জন্য RICE RTST একটি সুযোগ নিজেকে প্রমাণ করবার, একটি সুবিধা RICE Education-এ ভর্তি হওয়ার এবং একটি উপায় তার স্বপ্নকে সার্থক করবার।
